You are looking for Enum.GetUnderlyingType(enumType);

Sample from MSDN:

static object GetAsUnderlyingType(Enum enval)
{
    Type entype = enval.GetType();

    Type undertype = Enum.GetUnderlyingType(entype);

    return Convert.ChangeType(enval, undertype);
}
