How to create a desktop launch icon for a Linux portable app

I know how to create a desktop shortcut for an executable.

The issue is how to do it ahead of time for a portable app, that is, so that the portable zip file already contains the appname.desktop file.

The problem is that the paths to the Icon and Exec are unknown at the time of zipping and could be anything once unzipped.

In short, how would the following look in a portable app:

#!/usr/bin/env xdg-open
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Terminal=false
Exec=/home/usr/appname/appexe
Name=appname
Comment=appname
Icon=/home/usr/appname/app.png

Relative paths?

Any pointers are appreciated.

Thank you all.
