amazon web services - How to subscribe to AWS Greengrass on Mac

Question

I am trying to connect my Mac to AWS Greengrass. I have the core device set up, with no errors. I am sending messages, also with no errors (although sometimes it says it is sending offline requests, most of the time it seems fine). The consumer though, seems unable to connect. It says Invoking custom event callback... then Produced [disconnect] event and backs off for 32 seconds. Does anyone have any idea why I would be unable to connect? I followed the instructions on amazons site exactly.
