PowerPoint Displays Equations Strangely In Preview Mode?

Office 365, Windows 10, new HP Spectre.

PowerPoint displays equations bizarrely in the preview mode. Does not appear to happen in presentation mode. When clicked, the equations resolve or display bizarrely in a different way.

Has anyone else encountered this?

When clicked (the point where it is clicked becomes legible, the rest changes to a different illegible state):
