python - Saving graphs from Matplotlib in the interactive backend

Question

I am using the interactive backend (nbAgg) for plotting 2D graphs in Matplotlib in the Jupyter notebook. However, when I try to save the file from the embedded interactive toolkit at the bottom (when I hover over this button, it says “download plot”). However, when I click on this, a new window opens in the browser (Safari) but noting gets downloaded. I am using Matplotlib 3.3.2 on macOS Big Sur. Thanks for any suggestions in this matter.
