Google sheets disappearing images with scripts attached

Question

I use images on google sheets to trigger scripts. Occasionally the images disappear. However they still function if I click where they should be and the script executes. They always reappear when I refresh the sheet but if I move to a different tab and then come back to the tab with the images they disappear again.
