as.list(c(rbind(l1, l2)))

#[[1]]
#[1] "a"

#[[2]]
#[1] "d"

#[[3]]
#[1] "b"

#[[4]]
#[1] "e"

#[[5]]
#[1] "c"

#[[6]]
#[1] "f"
