load balancing - How nginx weighted round robin algorithm works between multiple worker processes?

Question

I skimmed through a small part of the source code of nginx (about round-robin), and figured out that the algorithm is precisely balanced if there is only one worker process. When comes to multi-wokers, is above conclusion still valid? If yes, how nginx did it? Use lock?
