python - got an error while getting messages from a public channel using Telethon

Question

I try to get the messages from a public channel using telethon 1.19 in python 3.8, here is my code:

client = TelegramClient('session', api_id, api_hash)

client.connect()


if not client.is_user_authorized():
    client.send_code_request(phone_number)

    client.sign_in(phone, input('Enter the code: '))


async def main():
    async for message in client.iter_messages('channel username'):
        print(message.sender.username, message.text)

with client:
    client.loop.run_until_complete(main())
client.disconnect()

and I got the following Error:

telethon.errors.rpcerrorlist.BotMethodInvalidError: The API access for bot users is restricted. The method you tried to invoke cannot be executed as a bot (caused by SearchRequest)

I have tried it with the get_messages method and the same error popped up, anyone knows what is the problem here?
