salesforce - Pardot custom variable in email template

Question

I'm currently looking at Pardot features and unfortunately I cannot find if it is possible to create an email template with custom variable and pass variable value to email template using pardot-java-client https://github.com/Crim/pardot-java-client

Appreciate if anybody can point me in the right direction. Thank you
