python - Receiving .txt file in Kivy app doesn't seem to be working for me

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Basically all I want to do is share my .txt file to my kivy app then have it print the contents to console.

I can capture the filename, and it prints out perfectly to the console. But when I try and open said filename to print it. I get a filenotfound error.

How can I open the file and print it to my console?

main.py below:

from kivy.app import App
from kivy.uix.button import Button
from android import mActivity,autoclass, activity

Intent = autoclass('android.content.Intent')

class MyApp(App):
    def new_intent_handler(self,intent):

        if Intent.ACTION_SEND == intent.getAction():
            self.button.text = "did it work?"
            filename = intent.getStringExtra(Intent.EXTRA_TEXT)
            print(filename)
            with open(filename, encoding="utf8") as text:
                text = text.read()
                print(text)

    def build(self):
        self.button = Button(text='Hello World')
        self.new_intent_handler(mActivity.getIntent())
        activity.bind(on_new_intent=self.new_intent_handler)
        return self.button
MyApp().run()

Please be mindfull of the fact that I've only been coding for 4 months and just bare with me. I'm extremely grateful for any help that you may give here. If someone knows how to do this in Android in either Kotlin or Java, please share the code snippet with me so I could maybe work backwards from there. I'm aware Kivy isn't very well known.

Thank you so much, I appreciate any help at all.
