kendo datasource, why is _view is called like a function

If I log out the value of sender.datasource, I can see:

_view: init(4) [i, i, i, i, _events: {…}, type: ?, _parent: ?, parent: ?]

But _view is accessible by calling it like this: sender.datasource.view()

Does the underscore make it a function? I can't access the actual data in the first 4 items as you would expect in an array: _view[0]

I'm not sure what the underscore is doing and why I have to call it like view()
