command line - Multiple pyenv SHIM path

I'm completely new to python and am learning how to install it properly. Please bear with me if this sounds obvious/stupid.

I'm wondering why there are multiple 'shims' in my PATH directory?

Also I'm using iTerm and at the top it says 'The default interactive shell is now zsh'. But the start of each line says 'bash-3.2', so what am I using?

   bash-3.2$ echo $PATH /Users/Aaron/.pyenv/shims:/Users/Aaron/.pyenv/shims:/Users/Aaron/.pyenv/shims:/Users/Aaron/.pyenv/shims:/Users/Aaron/.pyenv/shims:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin

Any material you would recommend to understand command line/ operating systems/ how SHIM works would be appreciated!
