php - Is there an easy in-built way to check whether openssl_decrypt has successfully decrypted data?

Question

If not, presumably the easiest way to check whether a record has been successfully decrypted is some sort of checksum. So store a hash of the original data prior to encryption, and then on decryption check back against the original hash?
