html - How to get your website high on the google page

Question

I'm currently working on a site that uses node.js. This is the first site I've ever put on the web and I have bought my domain with GoDaddy. (I am a beginner at node js too) When I search up my site I don't see it come up anywhere in the first few pages. The only way I can see it pop up is by having to search up the whole domain name (ex: Google .com). I currently have written keywords with my GoDaddy forwarding and have also used meta tags.

<meta name="description" content="Description here">

<meta name="keywords" content="keyword 1, keyword 2, keyword 3">

<meta name="author" content="My name here">

The description that I've written doesn't even show when I see it on the google page. I believe that my meta tags are not working or I just don't understand them.?? Please tell me if something if I'm doing is wrong, or I should start doing something that I'm currently not doing. (I also don't know if this is the place where I'm supposed this question so sorry if I'm not supposed to)
