joomla3.0 - Joomla Calendar Field add event

Question

I am using Joomla 3.9.2 and I have an form xml on several pages which includes, among others, a calender form field type. On one of those pages I want to attach an event lister for change event for that calendar field.

I have tried:

let refDateJElm = jQuery("#ref_date");
refDateJElm.change(function(e) {alert('ok')});

not working. I have also tried:

let refDateJElm = jQuery("#ref_date");
refDateJElm.on("select", function(e) {alert('ok1')});

not working either. I have also tried:

let refDateJElm = jQuery("#ref_date");
refDateJElm.on("change", function(e) {alert('ok1')});

It is not working either. So can someone help me attach an event on the standard form field calendar ?
